DAYS 1 to 2 - TO MANDALAY:
Fly from London via Bangkok, overnight to Mandalay. Arriving on day 2 you will be met and transferred by your local guide and transferred to the five-star Mandalay Hill Resort. Today you begin exploring the wonderful country of Burma with a visit to the Mahamuni Pagoda and traditional Burmese workshops. After lunch take a walk up Madalay Hill to admire some truly great views of the countryside, Irrawaddy River and city centre. The other option you can choose is to ride up the hill on a WWII jeep tour. Your tour of Mandalay will continue with visits to see the huge marble Buddha housed in Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, and the Kuthodaw Pagoda, where you'll find the world's largest book. Enjoy a welcome dinner tonight at your hotel.
DAY 3 - MANDALAY AND AVA:
This morning you will love venturing out to the Sagaing region, exploring its capital, Sagaing, teeming with 600 pagodas and monasteries, home to 3,000 monks, before continuing south to Ava, once the capital of the country between the 14th and 18th centuries, and where you'll enjoy a tour by horse and cart, visiting the wooden Bagaya Monasteryand the remains of the Royal Palace and Fort. You'll return to the hotel in the afternoon, and enjoy dinner tonight.
DAY 4 - AMARAPURA AND RV CRUISECO EXPLORER:
Join the Cruiseco Explorer today at Gawein Jetty , stopping en route at Amarapura for a stroll on the 200-year-old teak U Bein Bridge, and a visit to Mahagandayon monastery, home to 1,000 monks. Board Cruiseco Explorer and begin your cruise on the mighty Irrawaddy, enjoying spectacular scenic cruising for the rest of your day.
DAY 5 - YANDABO:
In the morning you'll arrive at Yandabo, a village renowned for its pottery, and in 1826 it was the location where the peace treaty of the First Anglo-Burmese war was signed. Here you'll visit the local school and monastery before returning to the ship to continue cruising downstream, stopping for a visit at the village of Shwe Pyi Thar. In the evening, dinner onboard is followed by a traditional Burmese Puppet Show performed on the sundeck. Tonight the ship will moor overnight midstream.
DAY 6 - BAGAN:
The ancient city of Bagan is one of Burma's most popular destinations, teeming with significant pagodas and temples - of which there are 2,000 - and today you'll enjoy a full day visit. Have lunch onboard before continuing with your discovery of this remarkable archaeological area. This evening, watch the spectacular sun set from atop one of the temples (subject to government approval), and celebrating a wonderful day's sightseeing with a champagne toast - no doubt a memorable highlight. Then, enjoy dinner onboard or dine in a local restaurant.
DAY 7 - TAN KYI MOUNTAIN:
Today you have a chance to explore some of Bagan's local markets in the morning, browse through wood carvings, fabrics and rattan products. Alternatively, you can choose to hire a horse cart to explore the site on your own, or admire from above on a balloon flight over Bagan (optional - additional fees apply). Enjoy lunch onboard before continung to cruise downstream before reaching the mountainside village of Tan Kyi, travelling up the mountaintop by jeep to enjoy a spectacular sunset over the Bagan plains.
DAY 8 - SALAY AND MAGWE:
In the morning, you'll discover the wooden Youqson Kyaung monastery, numerous colonial buildings and Bagan-era monuments such as Payathonzu and theShinpinsarkyo Paya in the town of Salay. Enjoy lunch back onboard before cruising south to Magwe, where you'll visit the Myat Than Lun Paya pagoda, built in 1929.
DAY 9 - THAYETMYO
Continue downstream, admiring the fascinating river life and picturesque surrounding countryside en route to the town of Thayetmyo, where you'll visit the local market,Burma's oldest golf course, and numerous colonial homes dating back to the days of British colonialism.
DAY 10 - PROME
It's an early arrival in Prome today, from where you'll drive to the ancient Pyu city of Thayekhittaya - the Pyus ruled the area between the 5th and 9th centuries AD - and here you'll visit the Shwesandaw Pagoda complex, and admire some fabulous vistas from the vantage point at Wunchataung Paya (Apology Mountain Pagoda) which boasts great views of the Shwesandaw Pagoda and surrounding mountains.
DAYS 11 to 12 - YANGON
Enjoy breakfast onboard and then disembark the Cruiseco Explorer, before transferring by coach from Prome to Yangon for your 2-night 5* hotel stay. Upon arrival in Yangon, enjoy an afternoon at leisure, enjoying dinner in the hotel this evening. On day twelve, breakfast is followed by a visit to Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda, where you'll find a 70m-long reclining Buddha, and stop by Kyaukhtatgy before exploring Kandawagyi Park, one of the greenest spots to be found in central Yangon. You'll tuck into a lunch of Burmese cuisine before enjoying a tour of downtown Yangon, where you'll find streets lined with faded colonial buildings, past historic landmarks to Sule Paya, continuing through Chinatown and Bogyoke Market, concluding your tour with Yangon's iconic and spectacular Shwedagon Pagoda.
DAYS 13 to 14 - TO UK
Today do as you wish before you are trasnferred to Yangon airport for an overnight flight to London, arriving on day 14.
