River cruise offer on the Royal Crown two for the price of one and no single supplementsPosted In : Latest Offers
Rachel and I have just returned from a wonderful three day sailing onboard the Royal Crown. This river cruiser certainly oozes the nostalgic charm of the 1930s. We found the staff onboard very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food onboard was excellent, with a wide variety of choice at breakfast and lunch and the evening meals were exquisite to say the least. Tracey and I chose to fly to Amsterdam rather than the train, upon arrival into Amsterdam Airport it was very easy just hopping on the train into Amsterdam Central railway station which only took 20 minutes. Although there were plenty of taxis outside the station we decided to walk to where Royal Crown was moored as it was such a lovely sunny day and it's only a 15 minute walk.
The Royal Crown is a sophisticated river cruiser, furnished to the standard expected of a five-star hotel. She was built in 1996, and completely renovated in 2010, catering for just 90 guests in a total of 45 luxurious cabins. The elegant décor of dark wood and classic warm colours permeates throughout the stylish public areas and cabins, making the Royal Crown the ideal choice for exclusive cruising on some of the most beautiful rivers of Europe. Highly recommended by Cruise Select!

Day 1: Amsterdam
Amsterdam is dominated by its well preserved 17th Century architecture, providing stunning cityscapes. Well worth a visit are the museums, showcasing the works of masters like Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Spend some time in a fashionable cafe while you watch the world go by. The shops and eateries along the PC Hooftstraat help define the city as one of the most popular in the world. You may even choose a private tour along the infamous canals for an alternative view. Board the Royal Crown this afternoon (time to be determined upon confirmation), with a welcome cocktail upon arrival. Settle into your cabin and explore the on board amenities at your leisure before enjoying your first sumptuous dinner on board this evening.
Day 2: Amsterdam - Hoorn
Depart from Amsterdam early this morning as you enjoy breakfast on board. Cruise along the Ijsselmeer towards Hoorn, a town which effortlessly blends the old and the new. Over 300 monuments depict the history of this former Dutch East India Company town and most areas are still intact today. The harbour side houses an old lock, cheese warehouses and a modern marina. There are countless pavement cafes and restaurants here, as well as the "Wooden Head", a landing platform used by the historic "brown fleet" of wooden boats, not to mention the Hoofdtoren tower, which dates back to the 17th Century. Hoorn is also well known for its museums, showcasing its rich history which ranges from cheese making to toys and even steam trams.
Day 3: Hoorn - Enkhuizen
Depart from Hoorn this morning and head towards your next stop of Enkhuizen. This is the most easterly point of the region and it owes its prosperity to the Zuiderzee in the Golden Century. The legacy of the Dutch East India Company period remains and is visible all around Enkhuizen, particularly in the 16th Century Drommedaris Tower. There is a busy lock which was historically used for the flotilla of old wooden boats, known as the "brown fleet" and many of these boats can still be seem today.
Day 4: Enkhuizen - Volendam
Leave Enkhuizen early this morning and continue your cruise towards Volendam, where you should arrive around lunch time. Legend has it that the Volendam coat of arms was designed as a tribute to the beautiful Volendam women! The village is very isolated and has therefore managed to preserve its character throughout the ages, without excessive intrusion. The quaint little houses, drawbridges and picturesque locations evoke images of romance and warmth. This evening you will leave Volendam and head back to Amsterdam, where you will remain moored overnight.
Day 5: Amsterdam
Enjoy your final breakfast on board the Royal Crown before disembarking. This marks the end of your cruise.
